What to do on New Year's Eve in Prague!

New Year's Eve 2015 celebration tips

It's the day before New Year's Eve (or Silvestr) and if you just realized this small fact, don't panic. You still have time to make plans and bring in 2016 with a most epic bang. There's always the dilemna of whether to celebrate at home with close friends and champagne or to take it to the streets and be part of a huge party that you probably won't remember tomorrow. But we're young and alive and all have at least one accomplishment worth toasting to from 2015, so I'm ready to put on my dancing shoes and hit the parties.

A lot of clubs will have entrance fees but boast an all night party with welcome shots and live entertainment. If you're looking to also be fed to balance out your alcohol intake, no problem, there are many restaurants around Prague offering buffets and "all you can drink" for one price. A third popular option (and quite romantic one I must say) is a cruise on the Vltava. Drinks, food and dancing with prime seats for the firework show. Yes, if you didn't already know, there will be fireworks at midnight (not the official fireworks , but shows put on by hotels and private individuals)! So make sure to add that onto your agenda for the night.

Where to See the Fireworks

The show starts at midnight and the fireworks will launch over the Vltava River. Anywhere by the river will provide optimal views of the show, but keep in mind there will be crowds so for the best spot, you should probably get there early. Old Town Square or Wenceslas Square are also great and very popular spots. If you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere make sure to head to Petrin Hill, Mala Strana, Riegrovy Sady, or the parks near Vysehrad to get prime views.

Last but not least, the Official Prague City Fire Works takes place in the first day of the year and here are the details:

► When: at 18:00 1st of January 2016
► Where: they will shoot from Vitkov hill, so they will be seen well from many points in city
► What to expect: 10 minutes and 6293 petards, New firework show themed "Inspiraton"
►Note: at New Year Eve around city will be lots of amateur fireworks by people, everywhere, and a lot, like really a lot.

Ps: If you wonder why not on midnight of the 31.12.2015?  This is official New Year's firework from the city of Prague, couple of years ago people of Prague voted to choose time and they prefered 18:00 of 01.01.2016 so that it is better to observe with children and families.
Enjoy!

Cheers to 2016 !!
