 2.- Budweiser-Budvar

Talk about famous and respected brands? Then you should know that Budweiser, before the Americans stole the name for themselves, was a Czech beer from České Budějovice, and can still be tasted today under the name of Budvar. Soft, tasty and not so sparkling as others, this beer is perfect to extend luncheons until the late evening.

 3.- Kozel

This beer from Velké Popovice is the favourite of many Erasmus students in Prague. It is cheap and easy to find in any supermarket, but still of great quality. Definitely, it is one of the most famous beers inside the Czech Republic. Its dark variety is as well very well installed in the local society.

 4.- Staropramen

In Czech, old fountain. Original product made in Prague. This is probably the other most favourite beer of students in Prague. Its quality is nearly undeniable – a standard beer slightly above 4%vol. with a unique texture. If you get used to Staropramen, you will be able to tell whether a beer you try anywhere is Staropramen or just any other brand. Oh, and yes – you can find the 0’5L bottle in your supermarket for less than half a euro.

 5.- Lobkowicz

Named after the noble House of Lobkowitz, this beer is spread all over the country. You might find it as the default lager in many pubs. Fear not to try it, you will be surprised by this clear, sparkling marvel that gets onto your head without previous notice.

6.- Černá Hora

Finally, a less known brand, but definitely one of the oldest in the world. Founded in 1298, takes the name of Montenegro as its own. It means, of course, black mountain. Just picture a snowy day in the mountain, after a good ski/snowboard session. Then you get to your wooden cabin and open up a couple of Černá Hora’s and enjoy them by the fireplace. That’s what it is.
